In recognition of National Reconciliation Week, we're highlighting some of our favourite First Nations artists who are kicking some serious goals in the Australian music scene right now.

Flewnt

Josh Eggington aka Flewnt is a Noongar hip-hop artist who continues to reach new heights, connecting people to his identity and culture through incredibly heartfelt lyrics. His 2018 track 'Kya Kyana' is one of our personal favourites. Kya Kyana, meaning 'welcome to the ceremonial ground', reflects on the strength and unity of the Noongar people and communicates how the culture can continue to be celebrated by indigenous youth growing up.

Emily Wurramara

Originally from Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, Emily Wurramara is a 24-year-old singer and songwriter whose angelic voice sends shivers down our spines. Her debut album, 'Milyakburra', sung in both English and her traditional language Anindilyakwa, is a true testament to Wurramara's cultural history. We're super excited to see what else Emily has in the works for 2020 and beyond.

DRMNGNOW

Independent Yorta-Yorta hip-hop artist DRMNGNOW aka Neil Morris is an artist we have an incredible amount of respect for. Committing to music as a profession in 2015, Morris continues to powerfully highlight the injustices facing First Nation people, exploring themes of identity, responsibility and connection to the land throughout his music.

Becca Hatch

19-year-old Becca Hatch has established herself as one of Sydney's most powerful young voices. At the age of 16, Becca won triple j's Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative and has also gone on to perform alongside artists including Briggs and KIAN. With her Mum being from Samoa and her Dad a proud Kamilaroi man, Becca's music reflects on her unique cultural background and upbringing in Western Sydney. Keep the good vibes coming legend!

Miiesha

Miiesha is Queensland's rising alternative R&B storyteller, who's songs eloquently highlight her life as a proud Pitjantjatjara and Torres Strait Islander woman. Her most recent release 'Nyaaringu' is one we can't get enough of. It highlights the ongoing realities of colonialism and explores themes of cultural identity, family and empowerment. We suggest you give the EP a listen if you haven't already.
