Event Details

Comedy at The Basement is a comedy event emanating from Sydney's iconic jazz club, The Basement, in Circular Quay. Twice a month, Comedy at The Basement will host the funniest stand-up comedians in the country. It's the only place to catch world-class comedy in Sydney's CBD, and at one of the city's most beloved venues.

For the debut of Comedy at The Basement we have a multitude of multi-talented multimedia comedians. That's a lot of alliteration for one sentence, but these performers have too many feathers in too many caps to count. We're absolutely stoked to bring you such a diverse cross section of talent. Make sure you do some cardio before coming to the show because these guys (and gal) are going to have you laughing in stitches from start to finish.

We have stand-up star of stage and screen, Tommy Dean, as your feature headline act.

Originally from Arizona and now one of Australia's most in-demand comedians, Tommy's routines interweaving the foibles of his adopted home country with the dark reality of his home country never fail to entertain.

In addition to being the regular warm up performer for ABC's Q&A studio audience, Tommy's impressive media appearance CV includes Spicks and Specks, Good News Week, Stand Up Australia, Rove Live, Joker Poker, Sunrise, The Today Show, The Sideshow and numerous others.

Tommy's genial manner, booming voice and razor sharp observations about the madness of modern life have made him an absolute favourite amongst audiences of all ages around the country.

"... smarts, skills and wit" - The Age

''Tommy Dean is awesome''- Foxtel Magazine.

We also have Rebecca De Unamuno as your MC for the evening. Bec has been a regular on the comedy scene for nearly 20 years and is one of the most beloved MCs in the country. But hey, don't take our word for it; Jason Alexander (Seinfeld's George Costanza) had this to say about her, "Rebecca De Unamuno is possibly the smartest, sharpest, most versatile performer I have ever known."

The under card for the evening will feature:

Michael Workman - Not many comedians can boast Michael Workman's credentials. Winner of the 2009 national Raw Comedy competition and the 2011 'Best Newcomer' at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, his 2011 show 'Mercy' became the only stand up comedy show to win the 'Award for Excellence' at the Sydney Fringe Festival, and that's just to name a few. Michael's sharp, intricately crafted stage fables and surreal yet insightful jokes have made him one of Australia's most hilarious and innovative comedians.

Sam Bowring - An acclaimed comedian, author, television writer and most recently, a card game developer, Sam has been performing stand up since the tender age of 16. His imaginative punch lines and confident delivery have made him a stalwart of the scene for over a decade. "His jokes are like ninjas quietly sneaking up on you.... undeniably funny. 4 and a Half Stars!!" - Adelaide Advertiser

Jared Jekyll - Jared has earned a reputation as the next big thing in Australian comedy. His unique performances often encompass beat boxing, magic tricks, vaudevillian tropes and stand up comedy - with an extremely dark surreal bent. Jared doesn't just break the mold, he shatters it. "This relative newcomer is definitely one to keep an eye on in the future." - The Brag

** Please Note: While GA tickets are available, seating is limited and preferential seating will be provided to those who book the meal packages. GA Tickets allow for entry to the show, but you may be left standing.
